Regents Place
British Land’s Regent's Place development has created a new business quarter, with buildings by Sheppard Robson and Arup Associates, on the north side of the Euston Road, close to Warren Street and Great Portland Street Underground stations. The development includes significant areas of public space. The Terry Farrell masterplan of 2002/03 set out two sites for regeneration at Regent's Place, namely Osnaburgh Street and the North-East Quadrant. Farrell's Osnaburgh Street scheme was the subject of scrutiny by Camden Council and the GLA, with English Heritage being concerned about the relationship of new buildings on its western edge to the Grade I listed church of Holy Trinity.
Camden and the GLA's aspirations, which had to be addressed in the planning process, included the provision of an element of residential accommodation, further improvements to the public realm, and the development of better pedestrian links. Positive discussions took place over an extended period with active local community groups, many of whom spoke in favour of the scheme when it came to planning committee. This, together with second phase proposals for the North-East Quadrant by Wilkinson Eyre and Munkenbeck & Marshall, will integrate Regent’s Place more closely with the surrounding area and make it an even more dynamic place to live and work.
