Hampton House
A residential-led, mixed-use development designed by Foster + Partners for Aldersgate (a Reuben Brothers company), this scheme was granted planning permission in March 2008 following a period of 18 months discussion with the local planning authority, English Heritage, CABE, the GLA and Westminster City Council.
The site is located on the Albert Embankment in the London Borough of Lambeth. Whilst not located in a conservation area, there are a number of listed buildings nearby and part of the site lies in the backdrop of the protected view of the Palace of Westminster from Parliament Hill. The architect designed a scheme that achieves the Council's policy objectives of 'breaking the wall' of development on the Albert Embankment, whilst the site’s unique location (sitting in the view 'shadow' of the Palace of Westminster) meant that height could be achieved without compromising the nearby World Heritage Site.
