Adelaide Wharf
Located on a former industrial site close to the canal in Haggerston, the Adelaide Wharf project includes 147 mixed tenure residential units plus 690sq.m of affordable workspace. The local authority was concerned that any redevelopment of the site should include an element of employment. Extended negotiations, on the basis of a consented scheme, took place before the current scheme was approved, with the employment floorspace somewhat reduced but employment creation more likely to occur in the reconfigured space.
The mix of residential accommodation includes 50% affordable units and responds to the London Wide Initiative, which aims to provide homes for key workers. The affordable units actually enjoy the best views of the city. A partnership between government agency English Partnerships and innovative developer First Base, the scheme features stylish architecture by Allford Hall Monaghan Morris.
