02 Urban regeneration

Canada Water

The vision for 16ha of Canada Water was agreed in principle with Southwark Council, which is working with the developer in an innovative public/private partnership. Outline planning permission was secured for the first, 3ha phase of the regeneration of Canada Water, building on the earlier development of the area in the 1980s but seeking to create a dense residential-led district with highquality architecture and public space – in tune with the aspirations of the local authority and Mayor of London.

This phase includes 828 residential units, mixed in tenure, and has been informed by an exemplary consultation process with the local community. A new public library has been designed by Piers Gough of CZWG and detailed planning consent secured. DP9 is now working with a panel of architects to bring forward designs for the other buildings, the first residential phase, designed by PKS, having already obtained consent and commenced construction.
