Greenwich Reach
The site close to Deptford Creek – near to the architecturally outstanding Laban Centre – was formerly earmarked for a cruise liner terminal. It is now to be developed with around 1000 residential units, plus shops, restaurants and public amenities, including a medical centre.
This innovative regeneration project, which includes a substantial element of affordable housing and generous provision of public open space, was developed in consultation not only with Greenwich Council, in the runup to a planning application, but also with the GLA, English Heritage, CABE and many local amenity and residents’ groups. Significant revisions were made to the proposals on the basis of comments made by the consultees. Planning permission was granted in 2006.
